The Tragedy of the Female Acne Sufferer

Here is part of a question posted by a female reader on an acne forum:

“I thought I had hormonal acne because I had the big bumps on the jaw line, they hurt and sting randomly like they are alive. Anyways I went to the doctor and got tested for hormonal imbalances and PCOS. Came back negative - I was crushed. Before that I was on 50mg a day of Minocyline. Its been 2 months and I swear only gotten worse... Now I'm on 100mg a day plus im taking a vitimin b supplement that is suppose to be decreasing my oil production.

Has anyone had success with these drugs?
Should I get on birth control anyways... I have really irregular periods.
I was on the ortho evra patch with i was 17 and i never broke out in highschool.
When i got off the patch i stared breaking out... sound familiar to anyone...?”

Poor girl. I almost cried when I read this. I really feel sorry for this girl because I have been in the same situation: desperate and completely confused. Did you see that the girl felt ‘crushed’ for NOT having Poly Ovarian Cystic Syndrome (PCOS)?

Can you believe that? She would have at least felt she had an answer if the doctor could say that she had PCOS.

But who the hell would want PCOS?

More importantly, who the hell put it in this poor girl’s mind that not having PCOS would mean the ‘end of the road’ in terms of being able to give a correct diagnosis?

This is what dermatologists put girls like her through everyday. They pump the girl full of false beliefs, pump them full of medications and take their money.

This is basically a dermatologist’s standard procedure for dealing with females:

  • Girl visits dermatologist. She’s desperate. She’s tried Clearasil, Proactiv and every other useless over-the-counter treatment.
  • Dermatologist tells the standard story about acne.
  • Girl believes every word.
  • Dermatologist says she might have ‘hormonal acne’ and says that she might have PCOS.
  • Girl pays a fortune in testing and visits.
  • Dermatologist says, ‘well, you actually don’t have PCOS.’
  • Girl desperately wants a ‘reason’ and a solution.
  • Dermatologist prescribes a bunch of things: ‘take the contraceptive Pill and take some antibiotics and come back and we’ll see how you’ve progressed.’
  • Girl does this. Some good improvement. Weeks, or maybe months, go by.
  • Then BANG – her acne is back and worse than ever.
  • Dermatologist then suggests Accutane.
  • Girl has heard some horror stories about Accutane and is a little fearful.
  • Dermatologist: ‘so long as you stay on the Pill, Accutane will be fine. Because if you get pregnant, the drug will cause severe defects in the baby. And you will need regular blood tests.’
  • Girl gives in. She feels that there is no other option.
  • Girl spends many thousands of dollars on Accutane and visits to the dermatologist over the following six months.
  • Girl goes off Accutane when she reaches the allowable limit. Acne comes back.

So, who wins out of all this?

The tragedy is that this happens every day.

Girls, listen to me: at least 95% of your acne is the result of hormonal activity in your body. But it’s not about excessive testosterone. It’s about excessive INSULIN!

You should do EVERYTHING YOU CAN to normalize your daily insulin levels and maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle before you even think of visiting a doctor. And if you want to know how, just get my book – you’ll be amazed.

It’s very unlikely that you have PCOS. Only about 5% of women will actually experience it. But if you are concerned that you may have PCOS, there is no harm in getting a check-up.

But whatever you do, stay away from Accutane and all the other junk that dermatologists want to pump into you!

Trust me. I’ve been there and done that. And you’d never want to go through the hell I went through.
